The MING-T "Kick-off Meeting" took place from Feb. 05-06, 2007, at the Future Internet Technologies Center of Tsinghua University in Beijing. The state-of-the-art building and infrastructure together with sunny winter weather gave us optimal conditions for a productive workshop.
The meeting started on Monday morning with a warm welcome address by Prof. Xie, dean of Tsinghua University, and an introduction by Ms. Alison Birkett from the EC office in Beijing, who also gave an overview of the current Framework 7 programme and other current EC/China cooperations. This officially declared the project started. The meeting continued with two introductory talks that summarized the current mobile-broadcast research at Tsinghua University. First, Prof. Niu presented the "integrated network" developed at Tsinghua, which combines the DTMB broadcast network for video and file download with a WLAN feedback channel for handshake and interactive features. Next, Prof. Song presented a detailed overview of the Chinese DTMB standard. After lunch, we began the technical discussions to define the schedule and actual scope of the several project workpackages. Details about the discussions including copies of the presentations and the meeting minutes are linked via the navigation menu, or accessible via the project bscw workspace.
